Bridge Neurotech is hiring an ultrasound imaging scientist to own the functional ultrasound sequences at the heart of its platform, from research probes through to custom hardware.
Bridge Neurotech is building a non-invasive functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI) platform with AI-based neural decoding for brain-computer interface applications. It is a seed-stage neurotechnology company based in Redwood City, with custom hardware, imaging science, real-time compute, neural decoding and research studies under one roof.
About the role
This role owns the imaging sequences at the heart of Bridge's platform: designing, optimising and validating the functional ultrasound sequences that run on the probes used today and on the custom hardware being built. The sequences feed directly into the research study, the real-time pipeline, and the neural decoders trained on the resulting data.
In the near term the focus is pushing transcranial fUSI performance on off-the-shelf research probes, developing and tuning sequences for imaging through sonolucent cranioplasty implants.
What you will do
- Develop and optimise fUSI imaging sequences (plane-wave, compounded plane-wave, focused) and reconstruction pipelines, focused on transcranial performance.
- Bring up and characterise sequences on Butterfly research probes, defining acquisition-correctness baselines the rest of the team builds against.
- Define imaging requirements for custom hardware with the embedded and hardware teams.
- Own the imaging protocols for the research study, including acquisition design, supporting data collection and analysing the resulting data.
- Partner with the decoding team on data quality, throughput and latency.
- Build the analysis and validation tooling to evaluate sequence performance quantitatively.
What they are looking for
- A PhD or equivalent experience in ultrasound imaging, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.
- Deep hands-on experience with ultrafast ultrasound: beamforming, plane-wave imaging and image reconstruction.
- Strong command of the imaging signal-processing stack: IQ demodulation, clutter and SVD filtering, Doppler and power-Doppler methods, autocorrelation.
- Proficiency developing research-grade imaging code in MATLAB or Python, working directly with probe hardware.
- Direct experience with functional ultrasound imaging or transcranial ultrasound.
- Nice to have: open-source beamforming frameworks, human imaging studies, and GPU-accelerated or real-time imaging pipelines.
