Axo Neurotech is hiring a neuroengineer to own signal validation and preclinical execution, leading in vivo electrophysiology studies and defining the path from early data to clinical translation.
Axo Neurotech develops biohybrid neural interfaces: living cells cultured on ultra-thin, flexible electrode arrays, so the cell layer integrates with surrounding nerve tissue while the electronics record, stimulate and transmit. The team is based in Palo Alto.
About the role
Posted as Neuroengineer, Neural Systems and Clinical Translation, this role owns signal validation, preclinical execution, and the path from early data to clinical and commercial impact.
It translates device and biointerface designs into quantitative, system-level performance data, ensuring the recording and stimulating signals produced are interpretable, reproducible and clinically meaningful. You will own the strategy for demonstrating the system works and structuring the evidence needed for regulatory and go-to-market success.
What you will do
- Own experimental design across in vitro and in vivo systems, and lead in vivo electrophysiology studies.
- Define and implement signal validation frameworks covering SNR, stability, repeatability and functional relevance.
- Analyze neural data and translate it into system-level insight.
- Drive the iteration loop across device, interface, implant, signal and redesign.
- Identify failure modes across biology, device and signal, and design experiments to de-risk them.
- Establish reproducible preclinical protocols and data pipelines.
- Define the preclinical to clinical translation strategy and support FDA-facing strategy and interactions.
- Work with external partners including CROs, surgeons and advisors.
What they are looking for
- A strong background in neural engineering, bioengineering or applied neuroscience.
- Hands-on in vivo electrophysiology experience, recording or stimulation.
- Experience designing and executing animal studies, rodent required and large animal a plus.
- Neural signal processing, statistical inference and decoding or encoding algorithm development in Python, MATLAB or similar.
- A PhD in neural engineering, biomedical engineering or neuroscience, or equivalent industry experience, is preferred.
- Nice to have: implantable neural devices, closed-loop or bidirectional systems, computational modeling for stimulation, and exposure to FDA or regulatory processes.
