Axo Neurotech is hiring a device engineer to build, test and validate its implantable neural devices, running electrochemical and reliability testing and building the test infrastructure behind it.
Axo Neurotech develops biohybrid neural interfaces: living cells cultured on ultra-thin, flexible electrode arrays, so the cell layer integrates with surrounding nerve tissue while the electronics record, stimulate and transmit. The team is based in Palo Alto.
About the role
This role builds, tests and validates Axo's implantable neural devices on-site in Palo Alto, owning hands-on assembly and electrochemical and reliability testing while helping build the test infrastructure, SOPs and tooling the team relies on.
It is a high-ownership role working closely with the microfabrication, electrical engineering and biointerface teams.
What you will do
- Fabricate and assemble implantable devices with precision and consistency, maintaining detailed build records.
- Integrate devices into test and implant hardware, building and maintaining assembly and test fixtures.
- Characterize device performance through electrochemical testing such as EIS, CV and chronoamperometry, alongside mechanical and reliability testing.
- Design, execute and analyze Accelerated Life Testing protocols, and track and interpret failure modes.
- Develop and maintain SOPs and lab tooling to improve throughput and repeatability.
- Collaborate with the biology and electrical engineering teams on design feedback and device iteration.
- Support and refine microfabrication processes in the cleanroom.
What they are looking for
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience building or testing hardware in a lab.
- Comfort with small, delicate assemblies and precision instrumentation.
- A BS in biomedical, electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as Fusion 360 or SolidWorks, and basic data analysis in Python, MATLAB or ImageJ.
- Experience developing or adapting experimental protocols rather than only following them.
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
- Nice to have: implantable neural or bioelectronic devices, cleanroom and microfabrication processes, Accelerated Life Testing, and FEA or FEM tools.
