Beacon Biosignals works on precision medicine for the brain through two business lines: a Life Sciences platform offering at-home EEG for the clinical development of neurological and psychiatric therapeutics, and a Diagnostics business combining EEG and cardiopulmonary signals for at-home sleep and CNS assessments. About the role

This role joins the Datastore team, the centralized repository and API for brain data from clinical studies. The focus is designing and scaling backend systems across PostgreSQL data models, Kafka event pipelines and GraphQL APIs.

What you will do

• Lead design and architecture for complex Datastore projects, weighing trade-offs against engineering principles.
• Own the data pipelines delivering dataset snapshots to the warehouse.
• Partner with product, scientific and clinical stakeholders to translate requirements into platform solutions.
• Debug ambiguous problems crossing system boundaries, and improve code structure and test coverage.
• Draft RFCs to guide technical design, mentor engineers and improve team practice.

What they are looking for

• 7+ years of backend development with at least 3 years on data platforms and infrastructure.
• Deep SQL and production PostgreSQL experience.
• Kafka or an equivalent streaming system, and proficiency in Julia or Python.
• Containerized deployment with Kubernetes, Terraform or Helm.
• A track record of mentoring and strong async communication.

The role offers two specialization tracks: Datastore Systems, covering GraphQL, TypeScript and event-driven pipeline design; or PostgreSQL and data modelling, covering query optimization, schema design and zero-downtime migrations.
