About the role

This role supports the day-to-day care and use of animals in the Brighton research program: daily husbandry, supporting behavioral data collection sessions, assisting with licensed procedures, and keeping the facility running to standard. It is an execution role following established protocols and Home Office standards precisely.

Husbandry and welfare

• Carry out daily husbandry: feeding, housing checks and enrichment.
• Monitor animal health and welfare and flag concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate welfare and health records in line with Home Office and AWERB requirements.

Behavioral testing and data collection

• Support behavioral and neurobehavioral data collection sessions following established SOPs.
• Handle animals calmly and consistently to minimize stress during testing.
• Log sessions accurately and flag anything anomalous.

Licensed procedures

• Assist with regulated procedures under the relevant Home Office project licence.
• Work towards or hold a Home Office Personal Licence for the species and procedures involved.
• Follow ASPA requirements and site-specific SOPs at all times.

What they are looking for

• Prior experience in animal husbandry or laboratory animal care.
• Confidence handling animals calmly and safely.
• Organized, reliable and detail-oriented, able to follow protocols precisely.
• Willingness to work towards a Home Office Personal Licence if not already held.

Netholabs states an aim of reducing the burden of animals used in basic research and pharmacological work, with eventual replacement by in silico models.
