About the team

The In Vivo team sits at the core of Merge's experimental engine, at the intersection of neuroscience, molecular biology and engineering. It designs, builds and runs scalable in vivo pipelines supporting studies across multiple teams.

About the role

This role suits an experienced in vivo scientist with a background in neuroscience or neuroengineering and deep expertise in rodent brain surgery and delivery techniques. It is highly hands-on, building and refining high-throughput surgical and in vivo pipelines from the ground up.

What you will do

• Design, execute and scale high-throughput in vivo neuroscience studies in rodents, focused on stereotaxic surgeries and delivery methods, overseeing dosing, monitoring, imaging and endpoint procedures.
• Design, develop and optimize novel in vivo methodologies.
• Develop and characterize novel animal models evaluating the functionality of engineered proteins.
• Work with cross-functional teams to refine gene delivery for targeted, efficient CNS expression.
• Contribute to custom experimental setups integrating imaging and neuromodulation technologies.
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare, regulatory and biosafety standards, and mentor Research Associates.

You might thrive here if you have

• A PhD or equivalent experience leading research end to end in neuroscience, biology or bioengineering, with 5+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience.
• Hands-on in vivo research experience with strong rodent brain surgery expertise and rigorous documentation practice.
• Nice to have: optogenetics, chemogenetics or sonogenetics, gene delivery, ultrasound, or immunology experience.
