Merge Labs is a frontier research lab working to bridge biological and artificial intelligence. It is developing new approaches to brain-computer interfaces that interact with the brain at high bandwidth, integrate with advanced AI, and are intended to be safe and accessible.

About the team

The Bio team designs, builds and characterizes the biotechnologies underpinning Merge's brain-computer interfaces, combining molecular engineering, synthetic biology, neuroscience and physical methods such as ultrasound.

About the role

This role focuses on developing and executing in vivo imaging experiments in rodents using advanced light- and ultrasound-based tools, genetically encoded indicators and effectors. You will develop protocols and generate rigorous, reproducible data informing scientific decisions and technical strategy.

What you will do

• Execute in vivo imaging experiments: handling trained experimental animals, imaging setup, calibration and alignment, and session execution.
• Handle experimental coordination across timing, scheduling, readiness checks and dependencies.
• Run data QC and organization, and hand off to analysis partners.
• Work with scientists and engineers to refine protocols, controls and success criteria.
• Maintain lab records, inventories and shared resources, and troubleshoot common imaging issues such as motion, stability, signal quality and expression variability.

You might thrive here if you have

• A BS, BA or MS in neuroscience, biology or bioengineering.
• Hands-on experience executing in vivo brain imaging in model organisms and producing reproducible datasets.
• Nice to have: experience with behaving animals, cranial window prep, stereotaxic procedures, or imaging QC workflows in Python or MATLAB.
