Dignity Health's Saint Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix is a 571-bed nonprofit hospital and home to Barrow Neurological Institute, a centre for neurological research and treatment.

About the role

This role sits in the Neuromodulation Research Department. With broad discretion granted by the laboratory chief or division head and collaborating faculty, the Research Engineer III designs, develops and implements biomedical engineering and other research experiments.

What you will do

• Lead method development, design automatic data collection programs, and design and draft fixtures and test apparatuses using rapid prototyping, manual machining or other methods.
• Provide technical biomedical engineering support in the design, repair and modification of specialised equipment.
• Guide more junior research engineers and laboratory trainees.
• Maintain supply inventory and records, and budget within known fiscal limits.
• Maintain quality control of equipment through routine service checks, preventive maintenance and calibration, and train new personnel on equipment use.
• Create and maintain the lab's internal procedure manuals, keep records of research results, and present findings in lab meetings.
• Execute experiments with independence, contribute ideas to extend ongoing projects, and assist with test reports, manuscripts and grant applications.

What they are looking for

• A master's degree in a related field and five years of experience in electrical, biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Preferred: a doctorate and ten years of experience across engineering, advanced mathematics or physics, statistics, computer simulation, or control systems.
